Wellness Festival Singapore 2022 – Zen and the City
The Zen and the City Chinatown ticket sales has ended!
As part of Wellness Festival Singapore 2022, Urban Yogis will be guiding you through an experience inspired by the stories of our island. Our unique offerings will take place at locations that are historically significant and culturally vibrant. Each class will offer you insight into a unique urban environment and take you through a movement practice that draws its narrative from the stories of our past. Strength, resilience, creativity, synergy and purpose are qualities woven into the fabric of each practice location. Urban centers reflect a shared human experience that can often be forgotten. We offer you a moment to pause and to observe. Urban wellness havens are found in the places that you least expect.
Since the early 1800s, the area that we demarcate as Chinatown has been a melting pot of various cultures and trades. Kreta Ayer constitutes one of the five districts of Chinatown. The area was named after the bullock carts that used to carry water from the wells near Ann Siang Hill. The district, known for the famed Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and conserved shophouses, continues to be a thriving center of culture and community, inspiring Zen through the meaningful coming together of people over the course of history. Our Zen and the City Chinatown Edition will take place at Kreta Ayer Square, directly across from the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.
Following developments in 1864, Collyer Quay became a vibrant trading hub and possibly the very first site upon which immigrants and merchants set their eyes as their ships approached the Singapore shoreline. The Customs House was the vantage point of watchful officers that patrolled the Singapore waterfront. Today, it remains a thriving hub for business and entertainment, and is a great example of how Zen and an outdoor urban lifestyle can come together to inspire a movement towards greater wellness. Our session at Customs House will take place on the rooftop above L’Entrecote restaurant with a stunning view towards Marina Bay.
