Viewing time: ONE WEEK VIEWER ACCESS from Sunday September 27 at 10am to Saturday October 3 at 10am (38-minute webinar).
FREE bi-monthly webinars hosted by Urban Yogis, created to offer a platform for open-minded discussion, exploration and inquiry. We’re breaking out of classroom-setting discussions about yoga to expand into thought-provoking communications that we hope you will be a part of. We’d like to engage you in a platform for intelligent exchange through topics that are not typically consumable in a regular class or workshop environment.
A panel discussion highlighting the gaps in representation for every body in the yoga space. How have we left people behind, what’s already being done to create a safe and welcoming space for all, and what can we do better.
We bring in the voices of Dyana Davidson, a long-time dabbler in the practice of yoga, Mana Takai, Washington D.C. yoga instructor who is also an Urban Yogis Retreat Facilitator, and Li Ling Soon, owner and instructor of Kate Porter Yoga in Singapore. Together, we navigate the complexities of teacher education, the media, and our natural inclination towards perfection.
While yoga is known by those who passionately live by it as a practice that can benefit us all, no matter what our body types, our abilities, our disabilities, and our level of experience, the truth is that as a community and an industry, we have fallen short in many ways of upholding its universal accessibility. While we know it as a practice that is beyond the physical body, whose benefits run deep into mind, emotions, and spirit, we have used mainly body to identify its qualities. And even then, mainly “certain bodies.” In this 38-minute panel discussion, we explore how the image of yoga has evolved and what we can do as yoga teachers, studio owners and members of the community to create a space that is truly welcoming to all.
