What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a distinct alternative health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. It is based on the healing power of nature and it supports and stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself. Naturopathy is the art and science of managing treatment and prevention using natural therapies including: dietetics, botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, lifestyle counselling, environmental assessment and adjustment, spiritual healing, health promotion and disease prevention.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy is an offshoot of Osteopathic Medicine. It is a gentle and deeply restorative hands-on type of bodywork using subtle movement and touch to create drastic improvements within the your body. It is best described as an anatomically precise type of bodywork that is approached energetically. The sessions are nurturing and non-invasive, aimed at helping you access your full potential of health and being. Our Craniosacral System covers the area from the cranium (our head) to the sacrum (our tail), consisting of soft tissue, membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that help to protect the brain, spinal cord. This system is dynamic, fluid and deeply regulating. It carries within it great intelligence, and all that the body really needs is to reconnect to this original source of wellbeing.

About your Practitioner:

Kathy Gabriel is the co-founder of Urban Yogis, a passionate yogi, holistic bodyworker and a licensed Craniosacral Therapist practising in Singapore. Kathy enjoys fusing all her learnings into the broader practice of yoga and therapy to help people cultivate the art of deep presence and delve into the deeper connections of body and mind. She primarily works with clients to overcome challenges such as anxiety, depression, fear, stress, insomnia, high blood pressure, hypertension and chronic pain.

What is Lymphatic Drainage Therapy or MLD?

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is not a form of massage but it is a very gentle technique to detect the specific rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow and to stimulate the functions of the lymph and interstitial fluid circulation, which are critical for lymphedema, detoxification, removing and filtering of waste, toxins and excess fluids, regeneration of tissues, and a healthy immune system.

What is Visceral Manipulation (VM)?

Visceral manipulation (VM) is a gentle manual therapy technique that assesses the relationship between the body’s organs and the potential influence on structural and physiological dysfunctions. VM helps to release tension or restrictions to return the organ to its optimal function by evaluating and treating the dynamics of motion and suspension in relation to organs, membranes, fascia and ligaments. About me:

    Co-owner & Yoga Instructor

I’m Singaporean by birth, global citizen by lifestyle, having lived in Indonesia, Egypt and India as a child and young adult, and later in the United States, Laos and Myanmar. My spark for yoga began while I was living in Boston in 2003, but my calling to teach grew much later out of the joy that I developed as a teacher’s assistant at the studio that I attended regularly. After completing a teacher training in Bali with Rachel Hull, Anna Smallwood, Emil Wendel, James Newman and Dr. Sujatha Kekada in 2011, I moved to Laos and started a yoga cooperative called Luang Prabang Yoga. Both the yoga cooperative and the immersive retreat programs that I lead under Laos Yoga Retreats have in some ways, put Laos on the map as a destination for yoga. I also co-owned a yoga studio in Myanmar between 2017 and 2019. My partnership with Kathy and Urban Yogis has grown out of a collective purpose to share knowledge and bridge the gap between people of different cultures, languages and belief systems. I trust that when a group of people come together from all walks of life, the opportunity for learning is boundless. Yoga has been an essential platform for these gatherings and for experiences that create more open-minded humans. Today, the biggest influence in my practice and teachings is Edward Clark of Tripsichore Yoga. He reinforces the importance of authenticity in how we express ourselves in movement. Ultimately, this translates to authenticity in life. I’d like to say to people out there, don’t be afraid to find out who you are, and when you find that person, don’t be afraid to be the person that you are! Thank you for taking the time to read this and to browse our website and offerings.

She initially sought out Buddhism and meditation out in order to process her grief. Through the years, her understanding of health and wellness began to expand and it was through a holistic practice, she learned how to found solace, ease and balance to move through the different seasons of life. She is deeply passionate about sharing this practice with others, helping them navigate their own journey through the belief that all that one ever needs lies within.
